HABEMA Task Force Delivers Free Health Services to Bring Relief to Emondi Village Residents

Sugapa, Intan Jaya, MediaHabema – As part of their mission to protect and uplift communities, the Raider Infantry Battalion 509/Balawara Yudha Kostrad, under the HABEMA Operational Command of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), provided free health treatment to residents of Emondi Village, Sugapa District, Central Papua Province. The medical outreach took place on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, during routine security patrols near the Indonesia–Papua New Guinea border.

This humanitarian effort was led by Second Lieutenant Alvinta Sembiring from the Koper Post (a preparatory command office) as part of the TNI’s territorial program. The initiative reflects TNI’s commitment to meeting the basic needs of residents, especially in isolated regions where access to healthcare is limited.

Durg their patrol, the 509 Task Force encountered Desmira Waker, an Emondi resident suffering from a fever. Without hesitation, the Medical Team at the Koper Post provided immediate treatment and administered free medication to assist with her recovery.

Beyond medical care, the soldiers engaged with Desmira and her family, creating meaningful interactions that also allowed them to gather valuable local insights about security conditions in the area. Their actions not only addressed an urgent health issue but also strengthened trust and solidarity with the community.

After receiving the treatment, Desmira expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you, Commander 509. I feel healthier now. God bless." Her heartfelt words captured the impact of the task force's effort, bringing a moment of relief and hope to her family.

Lieutenant Colonel Dian Dessiawan Setyadi, Commander of the 509 Task Forces, emphasized that such initiatives are part of the unit’s broader mission to support the well-being of local residents.

"We believe in more than just maintaining security. We are committed to being present for the community, helping them with their essential needs, including healthcare, " said Lt. Col. Setyadi.

The health outreach program also received praise from Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, the Commanding General of HABEMA. He highlighted the importance of combining security operations with humanitarian efforts:

"The 509 Task Forces' efforts are a clear reflection of TNI’s dedication to easing the burden on residents, especially in healthcare, while supporting the government's mission to accelerate development in Papua."

This recognition from the HABEMA leadership underscores the strategic importance of humanitarian programs that go beyond routine military duties. It sends a strong message about TNI’s role in fostering sustainable development and promoting peace.

The 509 Task Forces’ free health treatment initiative exemplifies TNI’s adaptive approach to community engagement. It showcases how security forces can also function as partners in development, contributing directly to improving the lives of citizens.

This effort is part of a larger strategy by the Indonesian Armed Forces to balance military operations with humanitarian action, ensuring that peace is not only maintained but also followed by tangible improvements in health, education, and social welfare. Such acts of kindness and care help bridge gaps between remote communities and essential services, reinforcing trust and cooperation in the region.
